personally-i call the oreo method

September 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment

i remember back in the dot com-ish days, i was asked to give a presentation to a bunch of semi big whigs in our organization-i was always looking for a way to get out of actually doing the research i was supposed to do, so i jumped at any attempt to “improve the research method”. in this case the improvement was to try and figure out a way that all us pee-on entry level research people could get on the big money analyst band wagon before they company just started hiring people that actually knew what they were talking about.

so i worked with a couple other people and presented some ideas to some people and they liked it and so we were asked ot present them to the management group-somehow someone thought it would be a good idea if i presented some of the concept. naturally i got nervous, and at one point i said “well we all know shit flows down hill, so it ends up wiht the people at the bottom” i got at least 2 laughs out of the group of 10 or so. and at least 2 full on -gasp!’s

after the meeting a particularly uptight woman (wharton graduate-man did she like to mention that) pulled me aside and used what i termed the ‘oreo method’ of criticism to me

  1. ‘jefke, great presentation- really good ideas and well thought out
  2. but there was one certain expletive, well we just didnt’ feel that was appropriate for a corporate environment-it’s things like that that people think of when we considering sending you our to work with a client.
  3. but really great job and i know we’ll end up implementing a LOT of what you guys came up with

i chalked it up to MBA bullshit-but apparently i was less formal than that….it’s just being coined on the interwebs
personally i hate it- i think i prefer the chicken wing method–caustic pain on the outside, followed by tasty fried and veiny goodness.

mmm wings. i think i know what i’m having forĀ  dinner.

The wife is a teacher, and they call it a compliment sandwich.

“Your son is very cute, but he’s also an idiot who eats glue and crayons, but he’s always friendly to the other students.”
