so being onsite at the DFTU client has brought several things to light for me. the first is, buying diet cokes from vendors other than grocery stores is fucking expensive. perhaps more importantly, i realized that i have about 6 days of onsite consulting uniforms. my uniform is blue shirt, black pants (just short of slacks) black shoes.
I quickly realized that i only have about 5 days worth of dress socks–i hate fucking dress socks, too thin, and too tight. guess i need to get over that.
oh tobesure, i have a couple other, none blue shirts. for example yesterday i wore a white one, and i looked like a bus boy.
I have a yellow shirt that my mom got me, but it’s well, really yellow, i’m not so big on that. I did just but a patterned shirt, even that is a bit odd to me.
I have a couple pairs of “khaki’s” that i just never wear b/c i dont’ have brown shoes. well at least i didn’t. somewhat out desperation, i bought some brown shoes the other day, from zappos.com (i highly recommend, the shipped with in 30 mins of the order-free overnight too!). so today is my first brown pant/shoe day. and i’m a bit freaked out.
problem 1 is that i don’t have any brown socks, somewhere i remember hearing that your socks need to match the color of your pants–so black socks are a no-no, but that’s all i have, so i guess i’ll just avoid hiking up my pant legs.
Problem 2, is that i just cant’ get my head around brown shoes, i dont’ know why, but they’re just weird looking to me. and the brown of the shoe doesnt’ exactly match the brown of the pant–is that bad? black is black is black–but this brown shit (teehee) just isnt’ so simple to me.
i guess the bottom line is–what’s the point where being overly self conscious becomes full on vainity? or i suppose, paranoia. I totally feel like i’m in grade school and the cool kids are gonna snicker behind my back b/c i dont’ have the right color hightops.
perhaps, am i overthinking this?
to top it all off, we’re coming in to pressure cooker hot season down her in the grand ole south-which brings a whole host of other, sweat related issues. it’s fucking march and it’s gonna be in the upper 70′s today, 2 weeks ago, it was snowing. now, almost 80. i hate it.
but more on topic–i hate wearing big boy clothes in teh summer, and worse than that, they traditional uniform is not great for the humid season )black pants–sheeh. ah well.
anyway in other news;
we’ve sort of settled in to a pattern at the fort, what with the both of us working and all. on days that natty isn’t working, i don’t have to sprint to the train with the same ferocity, when she is, i need to get home to relieve the sitters., we’re running into a problem where her rotating schedule is making it difficult to keep our 2 sitter with only set days available schema. the resulting stress, i’m convinced is the fuel for my recent outbreak of 14 yr old eyebrow acne (was that too much information? sorry). yes yes we could dump him in daycare everyday–well if we could find one that doesnt’ have a 2 year waiting list. even so, they seem to be geared toward people that can show up to work at 10 and leave at 4, and that’s not easy when you have an hour commute.
my latest idea is to just bring the capt to the office as a jr. BA, get him a little desk, a white board and a bluetooth headset. perhaps a press on mustache. he will be Jenkins, from holland. he’s a six sigma black belt and only i know his dialect of dutch. you should see him with a KPI chart, unreal.
i notice that, for whatever reason. people really avoid sitting next to me on the train, perhaps it’s the laptop, perhaps it’s the stressed, i’m about to snap and set the train on fire look in my eyes. but it’s funny. I sorta want a train buddy. i mean i see the same peopel every day. would be nice to haveĀ buddy. i think it’s be fun to bet on whether the conductors will wait for the people running to the train. there could be some great sport in that.
ok well i’m out. what’s new with all of you?

Brown is tan is rust. Just about any brown shoe will go with any brown sock will go with any khaki pants. It’s the same as black, the colors just vary by shade.

CWA refers to black and blue together as a “bruise outfit”.
Go to a nice dept store like a Nordstroms and throw yourself at one of their clerks and get em to set you up with some mix and match (garanimals!) business-casual pieces.

Oh, also when i was in the city or going up to Tarrytown in the summer, I’d always pack an extra undershirt to wear.

You need to do what I do and just buy black and brown shoes at the same time. I actually just recently (last week) bought the same pair of Steve Madden shoes in brown and black. Problem solved.
Somebody just told me about zappos.com and he was busting a nut over it. I’ll have to try that next time.

Personally, I find the notion that one cannot wear black socks with brown pants ricockulous. Black socks go great with anything.
But now that i’ve drawn attention to my bad fashion sense, a ilttle help over here; how egregiously bad is it to wear a grey suit jacket over black pants (assume black or white shirt)? Inquiring minds want to know.

i think that grey jacket with black pants is ok. just keep brown and grey separate. basil, i hope you’re not including sandals in that, “black socks go great with anything,” statement.

Black socks go best with white tennis shoes and blue jean shorts. And, be sure the socks are either tube socks OR dress socks, which are fully extended.
I think I’ve seen jefke wear that at a summer BBQ.

i’d like to mention that, on the phone jimmy said he was amazed that i’ve gotten as far in life not knowing to match pants to socks to belt.
now i wouldn’t say i didn’t know any of this–i think that’s a bit extreme. i think it’s reasonable to wonder how close one’s shoes need to match their pants. god knows i’m not buying a pair of shoes for every pair of tan pants.
I also take exception to the ‘bruise outfit’ comment. maybe it’s cuz my bruises have a green tranisition area between the blue and black, i dunno.
all that said, the offical color of the shoes i bought is “whiskey” so all day i kept thinking about knob creek. i hope natty is proud that i didn’t get bottle at lunch.
and finally, i pulled one of my new “no iron” tailor fitted shirts from the dryer this morning and sho’nuff, no wrinkles. MODERN TECHNOLOGY!!
