ah my children, where did i go wrong.
i dunno why it’s getting harder and harder to post regularly, it’s a damn shame though, ok that’s a bit dramatic, well ok whatever.
so another weekend came and passed and nothing special happened. we went for dim sum with the captain, there was a big screen TV showing what looked to be the chinese larry king, i swear the talk show had the same pixilated city/world map backdrop. the capt loved it. i was totally enthralled with the men yelling, and i do mean yelling at each other. perhaps he knows chinese already–i dunno. it seems the capt likes pretty much all TV. i guess it’s the blinking lights, and the sex. i dunno something like that.
the weather here at the fort has gone from arizona dry/hot to thailand monsoons (i’m guessing the have monsoons there–well in my world they do) to now super fall like weather. all in a week. i’m gonna go on records and state that i like my seasons to ease into one another, but hell it’s not like i have any control over this shit.
so the much waited for digicam arrived late yesterday, a day after it should have–apparently according to dhl’s website they attempted a delivery on monday–which is confusing at hell, given i was here, with henry the hater of all delivery persons at my side all day. to make matters more strange, when i went to check the mail, there was an overnight dhl envelope from our mortgage company (oh yes, i refi’d the heloc). so i suppose some gremlin/overnight delivery ninja broke the perimeter and left that there for us…now one would assume that dhl makes one stop per address per day, but i know better, well i know that ups sends overnights and regular deliveries on separate trucks a lot of the time, so perhaps the overnight guy came by but the regular guy didn’t. and yes i know not all business to residential driver are doods, but bear with me.
ok so big deal, i had to wait an extra day, none of my accessories (god that sounds gay) will be here till the end of the week so no biggie. well then co-worker jimmy who is/was also waiting for the same camera informed me that dhl claimed to have delivered his camera on monday…but it was not actually delivered–after several calls, remember dhl puts the customer service back into shipping, he found out that it was delivered to his address, well his street address in a different town. so i hopped on the phone to see what was what with my package (hmm, that could be a pr0n title–what’s what with my package).
so i called up their 800 number and got what sounded to be mr. mackey from south park, "jeuuff , we’re gonna do our best to have that packuage to you twoouday, mmm kay?" he asked for directions to my house from the town where the dist. center is. i dunno, i thought that was amusing. "wouldn’t the driver have other stops before my house. i mean i can give general directions or something." "umm jeuff that won’t be necessary, mmm kay, what color is the house?"
maybe it was a kid joking around in a call center, i dunno it was amusing to me.
so about an hr later the package arrived. the dhl dood knocked on the door and said "hey man!" and handed me the box. and then took off. no signature, no nothing.
so there i had it my new toy. i ripped open the box xmas morning style and tore in to the shit. i fired her up and started taking shots. and well, the screen is incredible, and the camera is pretty fuckign tiny, about the size of a deck of cards. but…..well, in indoor lighting, the thing really really likes to use the flash, which i personally hate–if you dont’ shit gets real blurry real fast. now granted there are liek 8 different modes and allsorts of other things i can customize, but that was my first impression, well that and the 16 mg memory card that came wiht it holds like 4 shots on the highest settings. we’ll have to see if this thing grows on me or if i was totally off in my research. maybe i’m just doing something wrong. if anyone has any tips. let me know.

I think most of the time things like new cameras, camcorders, etc. are disappointing when you actually get them. The camcorder seems to be the biggest bummer after a little bit of playing with it. Maybe it’s different for you with the kid and stuff, but I just felt like “why record when we can just take a picture?”
The only real electronics purchase that I’ve made that I REALLY liked was my new TV. That’s something that I’m still happy I got to this day. Most other things (like the xbox) were cool at first, get used less and less (collect dust), and I say “WHY DID I BUY THIS?!?!”
