right, so for a guy that is semi geeky, a lover of the technos, well of technology anyway. i sure am behind the times. (if anyone makes it the end of this post…well put it this way, i’ll be surprised)
so about 3 months ago i finally got on the rss feed aggregator wagon, and started using bloglines to keep track of my favorite blogs.
at the same time i’ve been researching and research and researching the fuck out of my next digital camera purchase. i’ve had a little bit of a chubby for the canon elph series ever since rockstar dens got one way back in 2000 or so. the at our wedded, our friend eric the flem had one, which produced pictures far and above what our photographer took….i was all ready to get one for myself for my 30th, but then my parents blind sided me with a perfectly adquate, but not elphish sony camera. i think we all know that an elph by anyother name doth not smell so sweet to the jefke (or something). so it’s been in my tiny little 3 track mind (booze, home improvement and gadets–, and pron, adn booze- so 5 track–yes i know you were wondering).
so it turns out, you can use these damn rss aggregators for all sorts of shit, not just keeping track of people’s blogs and shit. in fact, as i did research on the newest generation of the digital elphs, i learned that dell.com releases these online coupons every so often, and if you’re in the know, and you jump on the right codes, you can stack up the coupons and save crap loads in certain items. i learned this because last week i missed the chance to get my beloved sd450 for around 300 bucks, which is about 90 bucks lower than most sites, and about 40 lower than amazon on a good day. so i subscribed to a few feeds, thinking that fate was speaking to me, and prevented me from jumping on this deal.
you see the more recent but not most recent elphs have been plauged by
some lcd screen cracking issues. apparently some people get the camera,
and then all of a sudden the lcd just cracks, which ain’t cool. and
apparenly canon wasn’t fessing up to it all, and just telling people to
go blow. then they released the newest models, the 450 and 550, which are almost the same as the last ones, but with bigger, and different screens.
however, i’ve been waiting to hear if these crack as well. one guy in a forum had a good point, it seems that this latest batch of elphs have been the best selling ever, so you figure there ahve been a coupla million sold, and there are like 50 people on the interweb kicking up a storm b/c theirs have broken–so in the end, who knows how big of a deal it really is. i dunno. anyway
right so i come downstairs yesterday to start my day, and low and behold there are some new posts on some of the deal sites. and boom, one is for dell and there is a double deal of coupons on the model i want. so i go to dell to see if the codes work…and one of them doesn’t. so i figger that’s a sign, so i close the browser and start my work day.
then a couple hrs later there are some other posts up on the forums, and there is a replacement code for another 35 bucks off. so i try that, and it works, and waffle for a bout 15 mins and still don’t pull the trigger.
then i off load some pics of the capt. from our current camera on to the lappy. and some of the really nice ones are either out of focus, or too bright or too dark and i got riled up, went back to dell, and bought the fucker. saved close to 100 bucks if i were to order it from best buy or something (with shipping and tax) and saved 60 or so if i bought it from amazon (shipping would have been free from amazon, but you never know how long it’ll take). I even told co-worker jimmy and he bought one.
naturally now i’m giddy like a geek waiting for new electronics to arrive. to dell’s credit they got the fucker out on the same day and it’s scheduled to arrive mon/tuesday. the mondo memory card i ordered was backorderd until december so i had to go online and cancel that part of the order. I then ordered the same one for a 3 dollar price difference from the place where i ordered the accessory kit with the case and spare battery–which was 10 bucks cheaper than amazon and dell. you bored yet. actually you still here? crazy.
as you can imagine, natty is beside herself with a combo of excitement for the new camera and pride and love for my super bargin hunting. she’s already said several times how much she was really hoping that i’d get a new camera for the family and how much deeper her love for me is b/c i used several concurrent online coupons.
i wonder if is the hunter and gatherer in me, i mean there are no buffalo to kill, so i sit at a desk and search out deal on geek gear. makes sense…right?

Good job! Can’t wait to see what you think about it. Our camera is acting up and probably needs to be replaced soon.
