40 garlic clove chicken

September 9th, 2005 · 5 Comments

yes so yesterday’s post was a fucking masterpiece i tell you. just wonderful. ok it wasn’t. but i’m still pissy that i lost it because i upped ie’s pop blocker from "medium to ‘high’, i hate the way it says "oh i blocked something..did you want to see it?" and if you say yes, it then refreshes the page. and doesn’t even show the new window, the fucker. "why not use firefox you whiney bitch?" you ask?. well as i mentioned before firefox’s cookies or some such shit doesn’t seem to like typepad, so i can’t log in. such is life in the 90’s oh wait it’s 2005. oh well.

i opened with a walk down memory lane–back to freshman year of college and how the way the sun was setting yesterday reminded me of going to get "beers" illegally from a shady quickie mart type store. i then pondered why people from the boston area call beer, ‘beers’, as in "lets go get beers" where as i would normally (well prior to my time at college) have said "let’s go get beer" or "i need some beer b/c i totally aced that business administration exam". oh btw i went to college in vermont an 90% of my classmates were from mass. and i hate that accent and yes it’s ironic i went to the school i went to and my roommate was had the accent and played lacrosse and i used to get beat up by lacrosse players in high school, yes,it’s funny right. it’s like rain on your wedding day.

i then had a good bit about the mythbusters i saw the other night about chilling a 6 pack of beer in 5 mins. then i talked about how mythbusters seems to have a bigger budget now and was able to hire the hot chicks with tattoos, oh i was on fire in yesterday’s post.

then i moved on to some social commentary about the hurricane, and how sean penn is making an ass of himself by boating around the city. i even linked to an article in an irish newspaper about how seanny’s boat was sinking as he tried to help people. i had a great line about his current moustache. and a dig against rolling stone. it was good. i think.

but enough of this. on to new things.

the other day henry ran out of dog food so we trekked to petsmart to get some new stuff. he’s been a bit down lately, and his coat is not a thick as it used to be, so i wanted to get him some of the high energy food, b/c he’s outside all day sprinting around barkign at drug addicts in the alley and chasing birds/rats and such. but he sleeps alot so i normally mix that with some regular food, well the sensitive stomach one (henry can be a bit gassy). however they didn’t have that this time, so we got him some lamb and rice….some new kind which is roughly the size of nerds. i dunno why i did it, well there was a coupon, but anyway, he’s now munching on tiny food.  My point is, well, he’s a changed dog. it’s like he’s a puppy or something–always wagging his tail now, he’s playing with his toys more, and he’s got a sense of humor now. like when i go outside to bring him in and shit, he’ll wait until i get to the middle of the yard, yelling at him he’ll then come up slowly and then sprint by me, like he’s heading to the door and stop, cut back and do a lap around the yard. it’s crazy. you think he was depressed before? i feel bad now.

so the other night natty was complaining that "we" never "cook" anymore, i just grill shit. naturally i responded "yeah it’s great isn’t it?" but she wasn’t amused.  btw i grilled some crab legs the other day, i didn’ get to try them but i heard they were pretty good.

so anyway, we got the latest williams sonoma make-jefke-want-more stuff catalog the other day and they had a recipe for this. 40 cloves of garlic. i had to make it. and so i did. it was prettyfucking good. a few things though;

  1. peeling that much garlic sucks ass. not a surprise that in the catalog they’re pushing this thing on the same page.
  2. so you might think it’s a good idea to peel the garlic over the sink and then use the disposal to grind up the skins. well you’re wrong. the skins get gooey when wet, and you drain then smell like garlic. which isn’t sooo  bad i guess.
  3. i think you really need to brown the chicken in the beginning, not just the 3 mins they say, our stuff came out all gray, which wasn’t all that appealing. i would have lost on iron chef.
  4. the sauce was pretty good but very runny, i think tonight i’ll make a roux  and try to turn it into gravy.
  5. they ain’t lying about the garlic mellowing…i was sorta disappointed.
  6. 2 whole chickens is alot of chicken for 2 people.

soon i’ll bust out the octoberfest chicken i think….yes it’s that time of year again sammie’s octoberfest is out. i’d love to link directly to the recipe but the fuckers went all flash on their site, so i can’t. i hate flash.

I was excited about the 40 cloves thing. Shame it mellows so much.

    damn you’re fast.

well it could be that b/c the sauce was so thin the goodness of the garlic was hard to get in my fat mouth. def try the receipe though, the house smells so good as the chicken is roasting

I use Firefox for every site except for the sites we have here at work and have no problems. Your typepad problem sounds like operator error or something.

    Flash rocks.

    Just not for making websites.

Flash blows thicker hotter chunks than the DAS effect.

Firefox rocks. (Mine’s G5 optimized, and I’m riding Greasemonkey all the way to Web 2.0, baby!)

You gotta be careful, jefke. From ‘The Corrections’ (J. Franzen, New York, Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 2001) I learned that a father who grills dinner every night ends up having children who don’t respect him and a nasty, manipulative bitch for a wife. Plus it’s a sign of depression. You’ve been warned.

Now get off your ass and do some work around here.
