sorry to get political..

…but today bush and his evil stepfather testify, if you can call it that, in front of the 911 commision. I don’t hide that i think bush is an ass (har, bush ass) but the fact that they somehow rigged a deal where they:

  1. testify together–what’s this shit, it’s like getting in trouble with your mom and having your older, smarter, more eleqouent buddy from school come to your punishment meeting.
  2. do not have to be sworn in–gimme a break so they can just say whatever they want? what are you afraid of georgie?
  3. will not be recorded, and no transcripts will be made–this is just shady, shady shady shady

i just picture the commision asking bush a question, and cheney nudging him to put down the gi joe toys, bush looking up…”huh?”. cheney then prompts him….”come on georgie, tell them about how you didn’t know about the attacks…..and how you…you know…what we talked about….”

i dunno, the whole thing upsets me, yes, i know a shocker, i’m upset about something.

the funny thing is, i make no bones about not liking bush and this administration, they’re assholes, but if pressed i would have, up until recently, said that he did a pretty good job regarding the actual event of 911. and then he pulls this type of shit–which totally makes me think they knew about the attack and are pulling some sort of-let them attack so we can go to war shit. similar to the conspriracy theoriest take on pearl harbor….

oh well, enough of this bitterness.

ha

that was a joke people.

You liked him post 9/11? He’s an ass now and he was an ass then, too.

    agreed w/natty.

that is all i am gonna say

    no nono, no!

i guess i was unclear, it wasn’t that i liked him, just that, at the time, i thought he handled it as well as could be expected. until the invade afghanistan shit, and well letting the economy go to shit, and the trying to drill in the artic reserves and shit. I never said i liked him just that i thought he did a “pretty good job” and only regarding the 911 stuff.

and natty i seem to remember a converstation in bklyn between us were we both agreed that given the attacks we both thought bush was doing better than gore would have done, if he had been in office–like a person that wins the vote prolly should have been.

so, in conclusion, i never liked bush, just didn’t hate him as much for while.

Actually, you may have your facts mixed up. I did admire Giulianni’s strength and support for New York City (for those who did not know, Jefke and I were living in New York at the time), but was never blown away by Bush. I think in the days following the attacks, he did what any other pres prolly would have done- follow the advice of the PR people and go to where the events occured, wave a flag, and vow to bring the perpetrators to justice, blah, blah, blah.

Four hours and nineteen minutes after American Airlines Flight 11 struck the first tower, President George W. Bush declared war on an enemy with no name. This is not “blah blah blah.” This is the voice of the President of the United States speaking to his grieving nation and to the world. He could have said many things. This President chose to speak the vitriol of war and he thereby focused the national consciousness upon anger and vengeance. Your country remains frighteningly edgy to this day.

From a pragmatic, Machiavellian point of view, hatred and revenge can often do a country’s spirit some good. As long as it wins, of course. This is the key: George W. fed the voracious fury of the beast without being able to feed it. Bin Laden was out of reach, so he tried to foist Saddam on you guys instead. That was like offering an olive to a rabid Rottweiler, though.

The funny thing is that the real enemy is not Bin Laden. Instead, it is that mysteriously unshakable image the Americans have around the world of being clumsy oafs who talk loudly and say little, butting into affairs that are not their concern, bullying everyone as they go. Funny how that pesky stereotype just won’t go away no matter how many times you invade another country, isn’t it?

yeah yeah yeah canada in spain boy…shall we get in to the stereotypes about you quebes.. and yes i realize you’re not all really quebes, but in the end….i beg to differ.

cripes. don’t look at me to get all teary eyed and pro u.s. invasion. i’m all for the isolationist tip. the world is a big place, and they don’t like us. lets spend the money we usually spend on covert ops, on developing hydrogen fuel cells, and tell the middle east to fuck off and throw up big walls around this place and just hide for a while. we have nukes in case shit gets really out of hand.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like you to take the subject’s response to my statement as evidence for my theory. As you can clearly see, when he is confused or frustrated at his limited understanding, he reacts with aggression.

This American response is reminiscent of the African Hamadryas Baboon (a.k.a. the dog-faced baboon) whose swollen rump gets bright red whenever it is excited.

Please do not mistake my “blah, blah, blah” for lack of concern or care and note that my “blah, blah, blah” applies to the Bush remarks in the days following the WTC attacks, not the comments in the first few hours. Also, just a reminder to those not here in America that there are a lot of big American mouths claiming to speak for this entire nation, but never in my [relativley short]history have I felt so strongly…hmm, how to word this…the people who claim to speak for America around the world do not at all reflect the sentiment of what so many Americans feel. Yes, there are some who support Bush’s narrow-sighted actions in the name of Americanism and patriotism, but please know that so many of us are ashamed and appalled at the seemingly irreparable damage that Bush is doing to our already blemished international reputation.

I may not put it into the sort of scholarly-I-nealry-have-a-PhD writing style that Brendan uses for his posts, but my view is important, all the same. This also does not mean that I don’t love my country. I know it’s easy for outsiders to hate America. It may be far from perfect, but I actually do love this country. I just don’t like what the people who slithered into power are doing with it.

To address the aggression issue, if you are concerned about that, start in your own back yard. Do what you can to end the violent practice of bullfighting in Spain (if you do some research, you’ll realize that it is not at all a fair fight) or to prevent clubbing of baby seals in Canada (yep, they’ve started up with that one again). Don’t just criticize from afar.

this discussion has become tiresome and boring. i should have known better to try to argue with a canadian. it’s not worth the effort. he can rest assured that his homeland will continue to benefit from anything that the US might haphazardly accomplish, and reserve the right to poke fun/critique it when it suits it. enough.

now is the time on jefke when we dance!

Apparently they’re re-opening the seal hunt because the population has absolutely exploded and efforts to restore fisheries is at risk.

Killing baby seals is still outlawed (they got seal-cops on patrol, though no doubt some get clubbed).

Having said that, non-baby seals are defined as anything over three months, which I think means the fluffy white stuff is gone, and little else.

I’m not sure what they do with these dead seals, either.

  • 13 rcg // May 3, 2004 at 7:24 pm

Oh yeah, we also opened up the annual Saskatchewan Rhino slaughter — all the rhino you can kill-and-carry.

But those horned bastards deserve everything they get.

Actually, I’d heard a report that said they allowed killing of seals over three weeks old. Apparently, they nurse for a very short time. They say it’s ok to club them to death once they stop nursing (so, they might not be killing the little white ones, but they are still clubbing helpless, young animals to death). It just seems wrong to me. If everyone boycotts fur, then no one will club seals.
