Jefke.com morns the passing of robert palmer, an incredible example that a person with a medicore voice and a good stylist can become a sucessful rock star.
I have very early memories of mr. palmer, from the weird “some guys have all the luck” video, to the power station mr. palmer was a good egg. Being semi fanatic followers of Duran Duran, my sisters followed the power station with equal gusto. some where, in a box in some basement somewhere, i have the vhs tape of the powerstation on saturday nite live circa 1986. Andy and John taylor’s hair was incredible. I have to admit it looks like RP was gonna bust a nut as he tried to get out some like it hot, and it was very amusing to have the camera man cut to the Le Chic’s drummer during the tambale drum part that was not actually being played by him.
My high school band did a cover of power station’s cover of Bang a Gong, that’s how much i liked these guys.
As for the whole addicted to love era, well, hell–again, not very good songs but the marketing…genius. if i only they could have at least made it sorta look like the models could play the instruments. ah well.
Robert, er may i call you bob? good show sir. you will be missed.
