amazing.
so lunch today was yet another perfect day for a camera phone. The IT department, (of which i am a part) headed out to one of the 33000 chain/theme resturaunts in the area for our big friday lunch out. It was perhaps the worst lunch experience i’ve had.
The perky hostess led the 5 of us to a big booth, which just happened to smell like wet dog. now i just don’t think that people should have to sit 3 people to a side of a booth, i dunno, i mean with all the sprawl in this country, we can’t just have tables everywhere?
once seated, it did not take long for co-worker don to notice the 20 or so flies that were on the inside of the glass enclosure that seperated us from the kitchen. I suppose you’re supposed to be reassured when you can see the kitchen, i guess resturant designers assume that i’ll be more comfortable if i can “see that the kitchen is clean”. well fuck that, all i could see is that there were tons of flies all over the place. the best was that the waitstaff had their beverage station on the otherside of the windows, facing us. so there we are, looking at the flies. and there is the waitstaff, looking at us looking at the flies.
classic photo op if i do say so.
on top of the filth, it took a full 65 minutes for us to get our food. which wasn’t all that bad, but i mean come on.
the capper was their ’system was down’ and they couldn’t process co-worker don’s hip amex blu card. oh well such is life i guess.
UPDATE:
Co-worker Yoon filled out an online survey at the resturant’s corporate websheet. An excerpt:

Free lunch Jeff. Glass half full.
In some cultures, flies are a good omen.
And *twenty* flies? You can’t ask for better lunch karma than that.
[Actually, that's a lie.]

Co-worker Don’s AMEX card, IT team lunch.
Around here, as with the bagels, beer, and chips, that’d be a free lunch…

I’m counting the days until Cingular comes out with the camera phones. Every day I see more and more perfect opportunities for photos of the idiots I see on a daily basis.

Update: The wife tells me that Copeland’s has been sited for various health code violations. I can honestly say that I WILL NEVER go back there again.
